Kalevala motif. Design Raija Uosikkinen. Signature and authentic Arabia, Finland on back. Made of stoneware. This is the second plate in the series of 24 (1976–1999). It is made in a limited edition with no reprinting possible.
"As she turned her footsteps homeward, / Pushing through the alder-bushes, / Came the aged Väinämöinen, / And he saw her in the thicket, / Finely clad among the herbage."
This is a quotation from the Finnish National Epic Kalevala. The words are written in English, Finnish and Swedish on the backside of the plate. The famous Arabia artist Raija Uosikkinen has chosen to depict the Kalevala lines in brown, golden beige, black, white and deepest dark blue, giving the plate a very rustic touch. The picture shows Väinämöinen and a young girl.
The plate comes in perfect condition. No original box, no hanging device.
