Crème Cup with Plate and Lid. No. 1 – "Fredrik I" – Rörstrand / Rorstrand, Sweden

Authentic Rörstrand / Rorstrand, Sweden. Crème Cup with Lid and Plate No. 1 in series. Mint in box. Limited edition.

Made in feldspar porcelain from a model dating 1867. The décor is from the Gripsholm Set, which was made by Rörstrand, Stockholm, Sweden between 1914 and 1925 as a copy of an East Indian service ordered for the Swedish King Gustaf III, when keeping court at the Gripsholm Castle in the 18th century.

The first crème cup in Sweden was produced in 1766. It was supposed to be used when serving jelly and creme of nougat.

This Crème Cup by Rörstrand is the first in a series and was made in a limited edition sometime during the 1970s or -80s. It comes in an off-white colour with light blue and golden décor. It has the King Fredrik I:s monogram on plate and cup.

On the backside of the plate is written the following (in Swedish): "FREDRIK I, 1720–1751, Valspråk: Gud är mitt hopp." The device of King Fredrik I is "God is My Hope". Followed by an authentic Rörstrand Sweden sign. After that it is written "Rörstrands äldsta signatur" (authentic Rörstrand oldest signature) and "Fajansepoken i starkeldsblått".

The Cup measures approx. H 6 cm / 2.36 inches, Ø 5,2 cm / 2.04 inch. The Plate measures Ø 11,5 cm / 4.33 inches.

The Crème Cup comes in a beautiful white box with blue decoration and a blue cloth inside.

After having searched around the internet for anything similar to this piece, I must say it's obviously a very rare item!
